I've been thinking. I apologise again, the title should have been
.....
''If you don't believe in God, Jesus and the Bible; then you are either willfully ignorant of the massive amount of evidence, or an unreasonable skeptic''.
.....
Either way, this thread isn't here to have a go at some avatar called ablebodiedman.
If you are an atheist reading this now, what evidence or books did you consider before coming to the conclusion you did?
If you are a theistic Christian, what evidence convinced you that Jesus existed and the Gospels were trustworthy?
Thanks.

[First of all, apologies for not posting the Youtube video. I didn't want to post it because I no longer promote any such religious belief. Maybe I should have done. It was not a deliberate attempt to change the context or keep people away from it in case they are converted.]
Now then...
Ablebodiedman said:
"There is so much evidence"
(You have still only provided a Youtube video, what else do you have to offer as evidence?)
You also said:
"The overwhelming amount of evidence should drive any thought of scepticism well beyond any reasonable limits."..and..
"There is lots more after that!
or
You could just remain wilfully ignorant."
In other words: 'if you aren't convinced by the so-called evidence for the Bible and God, you are an unreasonable skeptic and if you don't watch this Youtube video about some other persons views on an old book (that is a contradictory mess to anyone who reads it as they would a normal book, without changing what the words say)
, you are being willfully ignorant of Gods existence. If only you had watched this Youtube video and examined some other unspecified evidence, you too would believe in everything in the Bible.'
The full comment has not changed the meaning of what you said, just hidden it behind excessive words, a common technique of many apologist types.
I've watched the video, and I still don't believe in Jesus. I guess that makes me even worse than ignorant.
My motive? I wanted to highlight the view that many of the 'Bible preaching' kind of believers espouse.. ''Atheists just decide to ignore all of the evidence for the God of the Bible (Jesus/YHWH/Jehovah depending on denomination).
They are unthinking, unreasonable skeptics that should have read x or y publication rather than remain in ignorance''.
Fine. Just WHAT IS the evidence for the existence of the divine Jesus, let alone a Theistic God of any kind? This is an opportunity to save me and others from a lifetime of atheism ending in destruction at the hands of Jesus.
Or is that video all that you have?
I notice that you haven't responded to my question as to whether you believe in the verses in 2 Thessalonians, but I expected that.
>>In fact Ablebodiedman, I'll bet £10, to be donated to your favourite non-religious charity via online methods (pm me with the exact charity, don't post it for privacy reasons), that you won't give a direct yes/no reply (with a brief explanation) to this question:
"Do you believe that those who don't believe in Jesus will be destroyed, when he comes at some time in the future, as stated at 2Thessalonians 1:7-9?"
If the answer is no, then you don't believe 'everything in the Bible' yourself, and you have joined the 'ignorant' masses who don't trust the Bible. It might not be long before you start to wonder why you put your trust in a character from that book. -

Theists, why does God allow suffering..
by The Quiet One in..specifically, the suffering of animals.
you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.
i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.

Any other thoughts on why God allows these things to happen to animals?
...I won't pounce on you if you reply, in fact I won't even be replying again. Maybe I'm too aggressive, because of my intense feelings on the matter. Anyway, I'm done posting now.
Anyone who believes in a God especially, please leave your message after the beep.

Yaddayadda: I wasn't inviting people to mock the comment. That is a tedious waste of time, to me anyway. I have pm'd him twice to invite him to discuss the comment further.
I'd like him to present evidence to back up the claim that there is so much evidence, and to have a dialogue hopefully. I am not one to make fun of people. I could give you a link to a thread where I tried very hard to talk to him about the issue of animal suffering, but he would not respond to me. His popping up in various threads to not have a discussion, but merely tell people how great Jesus is and post a video, seems to be borderline spamming to me.
Further, I think it is low to call anyone who doesn't believe in the Bible God willfully ignorant.
If I dropped in to an opinion poll thread on whether people believe in God just to say, 'Allah is great, anyone who doesn't believe in the Quran is ignorant', I would not be surprised if someone started a new thread on my comment.
Won't do it again, though, guv'nor. -

Blondie: The thread he posted this on was meant to be a simple 'post if you are atheist/theist/agnostic poll' by minimus.
I thought that, rather than let such a comment pass, or let it derail that poll, it deserved its own thread.
Sorry I bothered..
.....
Before I leave yet another likely dead and pointless thread..
ABLEBODIEDMAN, when you say that you believe the entire Bible, does that include this verse?:
2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 New International Version (NIV)
"7) and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels.
8) He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
9) They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might" -

Atheists and JWs are on the same footing!
by exWTslave inatheists believe that god should stop the large-scale injustice on earth; if he does'nt, then he does not exist.
jws believe that god will intervene sometime in the last days!.
interestingly, both throw themselves on their own expectation of soemthing god should or will do, yet in fact something god does not have to do.

ExWTslave said:
"when people stop believing in the existence of God, automatically their humaneness disappear."..and ExwtSlave also said..
"Conversely, No belief in God, means there is deep sadness within arising from having no real purpose in life. That sadness gives him pain. This pain will be transmitted to the people around him knowingly or unknowingly. Can't help. That is the inevitable outcome of having no belief in the existence of God."

Atheists in hurricanes
There are Atheists in all the roles
Denied by your refrains
Atheists are your fellow citizens
People who love and laugh and cry
Atheists are your relatives and friends
Don't insult them with a lie
Atheists in many foxholes served
And some have had to die
Give Atheists the thanks deserved
Don't dismiss them with a lie
Atheists are all around you
They work, they help, they care
And no matter what you think is true
Atheists are everywhere
And no matter what you think is true
They do not want your prayer"

God is love, but if you dont love him back he will slaughter you!
by BU2B inthis was one of the things that first got me thinking.
i noticed how in books like "draw close to jehovah" they paint god as a loving, warm, just god who does not desire any to die.
i could not love him at all, let alone with my whole heart.

Poll--How Many Believe In God, Do Not Believe or Are Not Sure Of His Existence?
by minimus ini believe in god but i'm not sure of anything....what about you?.

I'm an atheist.
It can be a long, hard and scary road, but if you continue to examine evidence for a God, with the same degree of critical thinking you applied to recognising that the Watchtowers claims for having 'The Truth' were false, the result seems inevitable to me.
Why worship a being you cannot fully believe even exists, and even if it did exist, whose morals you do not agree with?
Even the heavily sanitised Jesus of popular Christianity may make people feel better to worship than the Jehovah/YHWH of the Bible, but is there any more reason to believe in something lacking in proof, just because it gives a false sense of security?
If so, the next time I'm in a life-or-death situation, I'll follow Homer Simpsons example:
"I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman!"
